Recently, we learned from official channels that NVIDIA announced a strategic partnership with Foxconn to jointly develop self-driving and autonomous vehicle platforms.
Under the cooperation agreement, Foxconn will serve as a Tier 1 manufacturer to produce NVIDIA DRIVE Orin-based electronic control units (ECUs) for the global automotive market. Electric vehicles (EVs) produced by Foxconn will use DRIVE Orin ECU and DRIVE Hyperion sensor architecture to achieve highly automated driving functions.
Eric Yeh, senior director of Foxconn Software Development Center, said: "Through the strategic cooperation with NVIDIA, Foxconn will be able to provide more powerful intelligent driving solutions. The two parties will jointly help the industry build energy-efficient autonomous vehicles. Both parties have gone through this process With full consideration, they will use their unique advantages to strive for innovation and seize opportunities in the field of electric vehicle development.”
As more and more leading companies in the transportation field choose DRIVE Orin, the partnership with Foxconn will allow NVIDIA to further expand its efforts to meet growing industry needs. In addition, based on the certified DRIVE Hyperion sensor suite, Foxconn will be able to accelerate its electric vehicle go-to-market strategy and time-cost strategy.
Rishi Dhall, Vice President of NVIDIA's Automotive Division, said: "Through our cooperation with Foxconn, we will help OEMs develop intelligent driving solutions that can be mass-produced and expanded based on the NVIDIA DRIVE Orin platform. Foxconn has also decided to develop smart driving solutions for its electric vehicles. The DRIVE Hyperion sensor suite will help Foxconn accelerate its entry into mass production while ensuring the safety, reliability and quality of autonomous vehicle development. ”
The automotive-grade NVIDIA DRIVE Orin system-on-a-chip can achieve 254 TOPS performance to handle the large number of applications and deep neural networks running simultaneously in autonomous vehicles. NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion is a modular development platform and reference architecture for autonomous vehicle design. The combination of the two can serve as the brain and central nervous system of the vehicle, processing large amounts of sensor data in real time, allowing autonomous vehicles to safely perceive, plan, and take action.
