Recently, according to relevant media reports, General Motors plans to lay off more than 1,000 people in its global software department. The actual number of layoffs may exceed 1,500, of which nearly half come from the global technology center in Warren.
GM said the move was an effort to streamline the unit's operations and make it work faster and more efficiently. According to General Motors' annual report, as of the end of 2023, it had approximately 76,000 employees worldwide, including 53,000 in the United States. The move will cut about 2% of the company's global salaried workforce.
Previously, it was reported on the Internet that General Motors is launching layoffs in China. The layoffs involve multiple departments related to the Chinese market. In addition, GM will discuss production capacity reduction and business restructuring in China with SAIC in the coming weeks. The scope of adjustments may involve shifting to the production of electric vehicles, focusing on higher-end models and imported high-end cars.
