In 2021, THE URBAN COLLËCTIF concept designed by Citroën headquarters in France was exhibited for the first time in Europe, showing Citroën’s new thinking on future travel solutions to the market and consumers. Sharing a new model of autonomous travel, using technology to create a better future
THE URBAN COLLËCTIF concept is a systematic concept. Citroën applies the innovative concepts of shared autonomous driving and clean travel to create a new model of shared autonomous travel. The concept design consists of Citroën's SKATE (self-driving skateboard chassis), an autonomous and electric mobility platform, and six PODs (on-board vehicles) for different services and applications. During use, Citroen SKATE automatically parks under the POD as needed, and the POD begins to move and completes the connection and fixation operation with Citroen SKATE within 10 seconds.
In actual car use scenarios, users can remotely reserve the required POD through the mobile APP before traveling. After receiving the reservation instruction, THE URBAN COLLËCTIF concept can be scheduled by the system, automatically find the POD required by the user and combine it into one, transporting the user freely through the city, making the city more fluid, more pleasant, and more humane. Citroën SKATE technology platform makes urban travel smooth
AS THE URBAn important part of the AN COLLËCTIF concept, Citroen SKATE is based on the open source principle. PODs jointly created by the Citroen brand and other third-party service brands are compatible with Citroen SKATE. A variety of PODs greatly improve the frequency of use and convenient experience in daily life. .
In terms of design, Citroen SKATE technology platform adopts the form language of the ultra-high-tech body panel of the 19_19 concept car. The oversized double herringbone logo is clearly embedded in the center of Citroen SKATE. Through the transformation of texture and materials, the original logo of the brand is modified. re-interpreted. In terms of size, Citroën SKATE’s length, width and height are 2.6m, 1.6m and 0.51m respectively, occupying very little public space. This compact size and design also subverts the concept of traditional cars.
Autonomous driving and electric mobility platform: Citroen SKATE
In terms of configuration, Citroën SKATE includes various intelligence and technologies required for autonomous driving and electric travel, including batteries, electric motors, sensors, etc. For example, Citroen SKATE is equipped with omnidirectional Eagle 360 wheels designed and developed by Goodyear. Small motors are embedded in the wheels to achieve in-situ steering. The maneuverability and flexibility allow Citroen SKATE to enter small spaces and realize more application scenarios. At the same time, the application of many embedded safety systems can detect pedestrians, cars, cyclists, scooters or other objects on the road in real time to ensure absolute safety and autonomous driving.
