Recently, a former Chinese Apple engineer was formally sentenced in the case of stealing car secrets. He admitted that he stole the trade secrets of Project Titan while working as an engineer on the Apple car project. The client Zhang Xiaolangwas sentenced to 120 days in prison, 3 years of supervised release, and was required to pay US$146,984.00 (currently approximately 1.058 million yuan) in compensation.
It is reported that Zhang Xiaolang has worked for Apple since 2015 and was arrested on his return trip in July 2018. Previously, he was accused of stealing Apple's self-driving trade secrets before switching to Xpeng Motors. Apple launched an investigation, and through tracking software and CCTV cameras, the company obtained evidence of his crime. Zhang Xiaolang initially pleaded not guilty, but reached an agreement with the prosecutor in 2022 and changed his plea to guilty.
Xpeng Motors stated in 2022 that Xpeng Motors did not understand the specific circumstances of the case and did not intervene in the follow-up investigation of the case by the U.S. judicial authorities. We also have no relevant disputes with Apple and are not involved in the case. There is no connection either.
